Case in point: Rolex has used the occasion to quietly discontinue one of their more obscure models, the funky Milgauss.<\/strong><\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"><p>Rolex gives with one hand and takes with the other. At the same time that we\u2019ve seen <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dmarge.com\/watches\/rolex-watches-wonders-2023\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the first titanium Yacht-Master, a huge update to the Daytona<\/a> and the wackiest Day-Date Rolex has released in years, \u2018The Crown\u2019 has also discontinued their iconic anti-magnetic scientist\u2019s watch, the Milgauss.<\/p><p>The Milgauss\u00a0has always been a bit of an oddball\u2026 In a good way, mind. Straight to your inbox.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <p>It hasn\u2019t received an update in years (since 2007, in fact) and when a big watch brand like Rolex doesn\u2019t update a watch in years, it means they\u2019ve either got something big planned, or they\u2019re about to put it out to pasture.<\/p><p>We thought the Air-King, another lesser-loved Rolex, was also due for the chopping block <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dmarge.com\/watches\/rolex-new-explorer-ii-model-hint-speculation-prediction-watches-wonders-2021\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">back in 2021<\/a> \u2013 but after years of letting it put along, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dmarge.com\/watches\/rolex-gmt-master\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rolex gave it an update last year at Watches &amp; Wonders<\/a>. Finished. Done. All you mad scientists and engineers out there will need to scoop up an existing pre-owned model 116400 now. Like, right now, as I expect prices will increase [by] 10-20% pretty quickly.\u201d<\/p><cite>Paul Altieri<\/cite><\/blockquote><p><strong>WATCH our guide to the top 5 most expensive Rolex watches of all time below.<\/strong><\/p><script src=\"https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/players\/lTTWRJ68-KKjjplFe.js\"><\/script><p>Paul doesn\u2019t think this will be the last we ever see of the Milgauss, however.<\/p><p>\u201cThe model dates back to 1956 so my guess is they could re-introduce it back again in a few years,\u201d he reckons. \u201cIt\u2019s too iconic to send to the graveyard. But for now, say goodbye to that orange lightning bolt second hands dial.\u201d<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-other-rolex-discontinuations\">Other Rolex discontinuations<\/h2><p>The Milgauss isn\u2019t the only Rolex that\u2019s been quietly discontinued.<\/p><p>Every previous Daytona and Sky-Dweller reference has also been discontinued, as both models received significant updates in 2023 to both their movements, and in the Daytona\u2019s case, its design (it\u2019s got a new bezel and the new platinum Daytona has an exhibition caseback).<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/dmarge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rolex-Daytona-Meteorite.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-389215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dmarge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rolex-Daytona-Meteorite.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/dmarge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rolex-Daytona-Meteorite-960x640.jpg 960w, https:\/\/dmarge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rolex-Daytona-Meteorite-640x427.jpg 640w, https:\/\/dmarge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rolex-Daytona-Meteorite-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dmarge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Rolex-Daytona-Meteorite-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 400px, (max-width: 640px) 600px, (max-width: 768px) 700px, (max-width: 1024px) 800px, (min-width: 1025px) 1000px, 2048px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A white gold Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with a meteorite dial. Image: Rolex<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>That means popular models like the yellow gold\/green dial and white gold\/blue dial Daytona are no more, as are all meteorite dial models. It\u2019s a shame to see meteorite dials disappear from Rolex\u2019s range (not that you could easily get your hands on them anyway\u2026) especially considering how the current meteorite dial Daytonas were only introduced in 2021.
